Jessica J. Glazier PhD

Postdoctoral Researcher
Department of Psychology
Northeastern University, MA

I am interested in social categories (e.g., woman, transgender, Black, Multiracial) and the processes people use to categorize both themselves and others and the consequences of these categorizations.

I earned my Ph.D. in Social and Developmental Psychology at the University of Washington while working with Drs. Kristina Olson and Cheryl Kaiser and completed my B.A. at Albion College.

Research

My work, combining methods from developmental and social psychology, focuses on how people of all ages use and think about social categories (e.g., women, Multiracial people, etc.) in relation to both their own and others' identities. I explore social categorization in diverse contexts, inclusive of identities often left out of research, such as people of varying racial, gender, and sexual identities.

Teaching & Mentoring

As a teacher and mentor, I strive to create a welcoming and inclusive environment that encourages each individual student in their own abilities. Teaching and mentoring is one of my favorite parts of my job, and I take the opportunity to serve as a mentor seriously.
